Our Team
Abraham Lara
Hey everyone, my name is Abe, co-founder of Lee’s Heart. I’m a USAF & USN veteran as well as first responder.
My drive to serve others began at an early age when my mom would take me to deliver jackets to the homeless in the middle of winter, with money she raised on her own. I have kept this with me as a guiding principle throughout the military and now working as a Flight Paramedic... No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of another.
Throughout our friendship, TJ & I began to recognize many parallels of mental health struggles between veterans and people in Emergency Medicine; the need for community, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and suicide... So we got started, inspired by one my best friends Lee Gonzalez. With permission from his mother Collette, father Sergio, and brother Christian, we began Lee’s Heart, a non-profit dedicated to helping first responders & veterans alike.
At Lee’s Heart we simply want to provide people with the same outlets that have been fundamental to our own mental health and wellbeing. We want to show people how Lee lived and carry on his legacy. I only wish you could have met him...

TJ Holloway
What’s up everyone. My name is TJ, co-founder of LEEs Heart. I’m a US Army veteran and first responder.
I feel especially drawn to this line of work like most of my colleagues. For me, the pull began when I was 4 years old and was involved in a multiple fatality car accident. My 1-year-old sister and I were airlifted from the scene to a trauma center where we were treated for our injuries. From then on it only makes sense that a series of life events would steer me in the direction of becoming a paramedic.
Each one of us has a story of the how and why of becoming caregivers. But each one of us started with the intention of being a light in a dark place. A figure of hope in someone else’s tragedy. As one of my favorite teammates has said, we want to be the best part of your worst day. This line of work is an absolute privilege. To bear witness to the spectrum of human experience from the joy of delivering a child into the world to delivering news that a loved one has passed is a sobering reminder of the inevitability of our path’s end. Although privileged or not, the job and the life take a toll and with LEEs Heart I want to lighten the burden on my fellow veterans and first responders.
Abraham and I started LEEs Heart with a vision to serve our fellow first responders and veterans. The foundation is named for Abe’s late friend Lee Gonzales, a marine veteran in the pipeline to become a mental health professional. As you are most likely aware both the veteran and first responder demographics are at higher risk of a wide range of maladies due to shift work hours, stress and lack of social support networks. It remains true that veterans and first responders are at a higher risk for suicide than compared to the public. Our aim is to provide community and haven for these groups of people and establish networks of veterans and first responders to connect and recreate.
Crystal Wilson
Crystal Wilson is a wife, mom, caregiver to her husband Tyler, and a career firefighter. From a young age she spent her life serving others, including advocating for mental, physical, and social health for veterans, first responders, their families, and caregivers. Crystal believes heavily in and is practiced in the power of pairing outdoor recreation and community, as she spent the beginning of her professional career as an adaptive sports/recreational therapist providing these services to veterans, their families, and caregivers.
Her work in that field is how she met her now husband, Tyler, and from the day they started dating she began her caregiver journey to help Tyler recover from his combat injuries sustained in Afghanistan while serving in the Army. After helping Tyler achieve his ideal level of independence and recovery, Crystal realized it was time for her to pursue her own lifelong dream and follow in her Papa’s footsteps to become a firefighter. She completed fire academy and at her first volunteer department met Abe and TJ. She shortly realized they had a shared connection of the military and a passion to advocate for mental, physical, and social health. This shared connection is what made it an easy “yes” to being asked to be a part of Lee’s Heart, and she looks forward to seeing the power of her first profession meet the need of her new profession.
Tyler Wilson
Tyler Wilson served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, enlisting after the events of September 11th, 2001. While deployed to Afghanistan in 2005, he was critically wounded during a firefight when his unit responded as a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) to rescue a team of scouts who were ambushed in the Arghandab River Valley. After being shot four times, one of which paralyzed him from the waist down, he was medevaced and underwent life-saving surgeries and rehabilitation.
After being medically retired from the military, adjusting to a new life with a disability was no easy feat and Tyler spent several years trying to find his purpose again. Growing up in Colorado meant being in the outdoors was a part of life. Hiking, biking, skiing, was all part of it. However, after such a traumatic injury, Tyler thought those days were over. He began to find that purpose and independence again with the discovery of adaptive sports. It was in the world of adaptive sports that he would meet the love of his life, Crystal. She could see the things he was capable of, as he learned how to handcycle, sit ski, and grow as a person. The two married in 2016, and adaptive sports continues to be a fundamental piece of their family.
After going back to school and graduating from CU Boulder in 2023 with a business degree in finance, Tyler has looked towards giving back to the communities and non-profits that have helped him regain his independence and get him to where he is today. Instead of jumping into the corporate world, Tyler’s real passion lies with helping the veteran and first responder community.
Alison Lara
Hi there, I’m Alison Lara! I’ve worn a lot of hats over the years—educator, event organizer, product developer, and now General Manager of Bespoke Inn, a cozy boutique destination for travelers looking for something special. My favorite part of the job is blending creativity and collaboration to create moments people will remember. Whether it’s building self-sufficient teams or designing nature-inspired programs for kids, I’m happiest when I’m fostering connection and making things better for others.
I’m also deeply invested in mental health advocacy through my work with Lee’s Heart. As the wife of a veteran and first responder, I’ve seen up close how tough their jobs can be and how essential it is to have a space to unwind, recharge, and just be human. Lee’s Heart is all about creating those spaces, and I’m so proud to be a part of the work they do.
When I’m not working or volunteering, you’ll probably find me outside somewhere—hiking a trail, paddling out on the waves, or chasing the perfect cup of coffee (a never-ending quest, but a fun one). I’ve lived on three continents, walked across Spain, and believe wholeheartedly that the best connections often happen in the simplest moments.
At the end of the day, my goal is pretty simple: to create opportunities for people to feel supported, inspired, and connected. Whether that’s through a great guest experience, a shared laugh, or a little extra kindness, it all makes the world a better place.
